Link Notes
Connect related notes using the [[wiki-style]] syntax. Links are clickable and always
show the note's current title. You can also insert a pending link for a note that
doesn't exist yet. It appears in grey and updates automatically once the note is created.
Creating a link
Links are created inline in three steps.
Type [[ to open the search popover
Typing the second [ auto-closes the brackets to [[]] and opens a search
popover. Start typing to filter by title or content.
Search for the note you want to link
The popover shows up to 20 matches as you type. Use ↑ / ↓ to navigate,
or click a note directly.
Select a note, or insert a pending link
Press Enter or click a result to insert the link. If no notes match, a
Link "[title]" option appears highlighted. Press Enter to insert a
pending link. Press Esc to dismiss without inserting.
Pending links
A pending link references a note that doesn't exist yet. Write first and create the note later.
Pending links appear in grey. Clicking one opens the Create note modal with the
title pre-filled. On submit, every matching [[title]] across all your notes resolves
to an active link automatically.
Editing a link
Place the cursor inside a link and the [[ ]] brackets reappear. Edit the
display text directly, or delete it and retype [[ to search for a different note.
Moving the cursor out hides the brackets, returning to the clean linked view.
Navigating to a linked note
Click any active link to open the note. You can read, edit, or start a review session without leaving your current context. Clicking a pending (grey) link opens the Create note modal instead.
Ghost notes in the Connections view
The Connections graph maps all your notes and the links between them. Notes referenced by pending links appear as grey ghost notes - visible on the map but not yet written.
Clicking a ghost note opens the Create note modal. On submit, the node becomes a real note and all pending links to it resolve automatically.
Tips
- Search matches both titles and content, so you don't need the exact title.
- Use pending links to write first and fill in the destination notes later. They update everywhere automatically.
- Linking related notes before a review session helps surface connections and strengthens recall.
- Links are one-directional, but a note can have unlimited incoming references.
- If you rename a note, links still work. They store the note's ID, not its title.
