Cloze

A cloze card blanks out one or more words inside a sentence, so you recall the missing piece in the context it actually appears in, rather than as an isolated question and answer.

Marking blanks

Wrap the answer in double curly braces like {{answer}} anywhere inside the text. Before you reveal, each blank shows as a grey box. After you reveal, the answer appears highlighted in place.

When to use cloze over a flashcard

Cloze works best when the answer only makes sense in its surrounding sentence, like a date, a formula, or a specific word in a quote. Splitting these into a separate question and answer would lose that context. Cloze cards are reviewed on the same schedule as flashcards and revision notes.
